About The Genesis Alert System

The Genesis Alert System® is an adaptable, real-time, multi-sensor aquatic pollution and toxins monitoring and tracking device, within a communications system for environmental pollution prevention and response. Its principal uses are for environmental monitoring, early warning, and enforcement by governments and water authorities, scientific measurement, industrial monitoring, spill tracking, and other prevention uses.

The technology consists of a sensor which uses solar and battery powered hydrocarbon fluorescence for aquatic monitoring and detection with a constant radio (RF) or satellite communications signal to a computerized alert and recording software program.

The data signal sent by the buoy system includes a distinct platform identification signal corresponding to the buoyant detection platform and may include a deployable free floating tracking buoy to be deployed from a ship or a fixed buoy platform when the detection signal is generated to indicate the direction and speed of travel of the oil slick created by the oil spill.

Current sensors are suitable for oil and related petroleum products and algae proliferation (turbidity). Research and development work is focused on sensors for biologics such as coliform, cryptosporidium, and Pfiesteria, as well as heavy metals, and other pollutant detection, monitoring, and tracking sensors for freshwater and marine environments, inland and ocean.

Other manufacturers technology is being adapted to Genesis Alert System® sensors for more complete monitoring of parameters such as oxygen, salinity, pH, nitrate, ammonia, and turbidity (algae).

The sensors are designed to be housed in either retrofit mounts for existing buoys, or in new buoys designed especially for the Genesis Alert System®. Baxter Technologies has developed a full range of buoys, adapted for high seas, bay, bunker and stationary mount installations. The GS-1 for high seas use, for example, contains oil detection sensors, water analysis sensor for data collection, radar reflectors, integral ballasting, direct radio communications, and solar photovoltaic batteries, as well as optional automatic tracking buoy for deployment, an anchor kit, and 30 FPM lighting.

Field Site Deployment - The Genesis Alert System® is currently being deployed on the Ohio River for a field demonstration sponsored by the US Environmental Protection Agency, for safeguarding drinking water supplies of 27 water utility companies which use the river for supplying major US cities such as Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. The US National Parks Service, Gateway National Recreation Area, New York, has just requested deployment of a Genesis Alert System® to monitor the sensitive environment and recreational areas of New York Harbor.
